What is Silicon Metal?
Silicon metal is a product smelted from quartz and coke in an
electric furnace. The main component of silicon is about 98% at
least. Silicon is used in large quantities to be smelted into ferro
silicon alloy in the iron and steel industry, and as a reducing
agent (deoxidizer) in the smelting of many metals. Silicon is also
a good component in aluminum alloys, and most cast aluminum alloys
contain silicon.
Function
Silicon Metal is silver gray or dark gray powder with metallic
luster, which be of high melting point, good heat resistance, high
resistivity and superior oxidation resistance.

Applications
1. Used in aluminum: An additive to aluminum alloys, silicon is
used to increase the fluidity and tenacity of Aluminum and its
alloys, which enjoy good castability and weldability accordingly.
2. Used in organic chemicals: Silicon metal is used in
manufacturing a number of sorts of silicones, resins, and
lubricants.
3. It is an important material for cermet and space navigation. The
glass fiber with high transparency made of pure silica has high
communication capacity, is free from electric and magnetic
interference and has high confidentiality, and can be used for
optical fiber communication. Silicone organic compounds can be used
as plastics and coatings and are widely used.
